Workers compensation insurance is a legislated and compulsory insurance that protects employers from financial costs when a worker sustains a work-related injury or disease. Employers must provide workers’ compensation for anyone they employ who the legislation defines as a ‘worker’.

The definition of a ‘worker’ covers

  • full-time workers on a wage or salary
  • part-time, casual and seasonal workers
  • workers on commission
  • piece workers
  • working directors
  • contractors and sub-contractors (in some circumstances)
  • family members (in some circumstances).

Definitions and Payments for injured workers differ among states, as each has their own set of rules and regulations. Policies also vary and where you can obtain them from.

In Queensland, all workers’ compensation insurance are managed by ‎WorkCover Queensland.‎
